The NYC streets...

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege to work with the brilliant, and insanely talented photographer, Francesco Sapienza.  We spent an entire day (and into the wee hours of the morning) running around the NYC streets, stopping to take photos in whatever location felt right.  Some photos were taken in 2-minute spans between trains on a subway platform; some were taken by the chilly waters of the Hudson River (requiring an ever-so-glamourous public restroom outfit change...); others were taken on the streets as we roamed.  Our last location took place at a little diner at 2am.  Bailey's always makes those late night shoots way more entertaining :).  Thanks to Francesco for his amazing work, and also to the super talented Nadine Matar for her incredible styling abilities.

Here's a little preview for you...

...Enlaced...

I just can't get enough of this look.  Sapphire from Almost Famous (above photo) and rebellion against Grandma's tablecloth.  Femininity mixed with badass.  Perfection.

New York, New York

(....aaand mondo-sized water bottle takes center stage.)

Bitter End, NYC 4/17/2011.  Played to a wall of old posters and hand-painted portraits of Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell, and a scarily-recent promo poster of a brunette pre-"GAGAAA!" Lady Gaga.  Had a fabulous time hanging with friends in the city and sharing the stage with the ghosts of the greats.

Daytime Candlelight.

This article in today's Washington Express woke me up a bit on my average rainy-day bus-ride to work...

There's nothing cooler and more inspiring to me than seeing how other musicians get their mojo going.

Reading about how the guys in Animal Collective do things "backwards" (like touring to promote an album before actually hitting the studio) and how Panda Bear/Noah Lennox created strict daytime-by-candlelight studio hours in a dark, sweaty basement to create Tomboy, makes me realize one of the reasons why I think the music business is so intriguing, and why we all do what we do: it takes some kinds of batshit crazy ideas and ritualistic methods to get what you want on a record; to get out what you want to say.  But once it's out there, and you can feel the sweat and flickering candles from Lennox's basement studio when you hear tracks like "Last Night at the Jetty" or "Slow Motion," you couldn't imagine the process going down any other way.

Check out the"chunky and heavy" 90's hip-hop style in "Slow Motion."

Tomboy drops April 19th. Needless to say, ...I'm pumped.

Yellow.

Sometimes all it takes is a few good friends and a few good mimosas to bring the colors out.
